So I have been wanting to try this DIY idea for a while. I love smoked meat, but I don't have a smoker nor do I plan to buy one. I knew Google would have a few suggestions for how to smoke my own meat at home on my stove. I did some research and found this video.
It seemed simple enough. So I decided to give it a try and give my reviews.
I forgot to take a before picture with all the pieces separately, But this is my smoking apparatus put together:

Up next, smoking in action. The pots filled up with smoke after about 3 minutes.

And the finished product.

My Reviews:
Unlike the guy in the video, I started with raw chicken. I thought that smoking the chicken for only 15 minutes it would have been quite undercooked, especially since there was no direct heat (being in the top pan) but not so. I checked the temperature and it was 170 degrees. Nice and done!
The meat was tender but I think the smoke flavor was too strong. I think using the sugar and other ingredients charred the smoke too much. Next time I will just use the hickory.
I wish I found a way to add a middle pan to catch a the juicy goodness, but I guess I will have to do without the gravy this time around.
With all that said: Stove top smoking gets my vote! With a few tweaks, this will definitely become a regular go to dinner solution. A healthy choice since I didn't have to use any fat to cook the chicken.
