So people ask me all the time what I miss most about Jamaica, and while I've been craving Hellshire fried fish and festival lately, I have to admit the number one thing I miss is not having to do my own taxes! Whose idea was this?
Aside from all the words I can't spell or pronounce, there are forms I dont understand and software that was designed to make sure you make mistakes when entering your data. Seriously, isn't there someone the Government can hire to just get this stuff done? (and no, I don't mean HR BLock!)
We start our tax prep early because we have to do company and personal accounts together and do our best to be accurate with it. Last year we got by our CPA with a sloppy quickbooks file, but this year, she's not having it. To make matters worse, we were banking with Wachovia, who decided to become Wells Fargo, who decided to delete our online statements so now we have to figure out how to get pdf documents imported into quickbooks.
Our CPA suggested that we key our transactions in manually, lol we laughed. We are definitely too nerdy for that. In this age of technology, there is never a good reason to do something manually, unless you just really, really want to - and we just really, really didn't want to spend our last days on earth entering bank transaction one key at a time into quickbooks. So we put our nerdiness to work.
So here we are today, after much googling, file manipulation, trial and error, and decrypting account jargon we managed to figure out how to get our thousand plus transactions imported into quickbooks with the push of a button. Like Magic!
It's times like these that make me glad I married a computer nerd.
